Mississippi history has been made with the unveiling of the first beach volleyball court on a school campus.

You would think that one of the schools along the Gulf Coast would be the first to jump on the opportunity, but it was actually Brandon High School in central Mississippi that chose to blaze this new trail.

The Rankin County school announced Thursday that its newest athletic facility, called Bulldog Beach, is up and running. Brandon is now leading the charge to elevate beach volleyball at the grade school level in the state, offering new opportunities for competition, training, and community for athletes.

“We are continuing to dream big and train hard at Brandon,” a statement from the Brandon Athletics Department reads. “Thank you to our B Club for making this dream come true for our athletes.”

An official ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at Bulldog Beach on July 23 at 3:30 p.m. The Mississippi High School Activities Association currently does not sanction the sport for statewide competition, meaning it will be played at the club level at Brandon for the time being.
