You never know what a Powerball ticket purchased at a convenience store in Mississippi will bring. But a player in northeast Mississippi quickly discovered that it could yield a million-dollar payday.
The Mississippi Lottery Corporation announced Monday that a $2 ticket bought at a Sprint Mart in Tupelo matched all five white balls during Saturday night’s Powerball drawing. The winning ticket is worth $1 million, but the lucky player could have doubled the prize money if the Power Play feature had been added for an additional $1.
Mississippi was one of six states to produce a $1 million-winning ticket in the drawing, joining Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas and Washington. The local winner has 180 days from the drawing date to claim the prize at the Mississippi Lottery Headquarters in Flowood.
Meanwhile, the Powerball jackpot continues to grow. Monday night’s drawing features an estimated $633 million jackpot with an estimated cash value of $277.3 million. As for Mega Millions, the game now offers an estimated $800 million jackpot with an estimated cash value of $344.2 million for Tuesday night’s drawing.
