An arrest has been made after police found a man dead behind a Greenville home.

The Greenville Police Department announced that Anthony Winder, 63, has been taken into custody in connection with the death of Harold Charles. Winder is charged with murder and has been transported to the Washington County Regional Correctional Facility.

Charles was discovered deceased in a shed behind a residence off North 7th Street on Saturday. Police say Winder’s arrest follows an “extensive investigation” that entailed law enforcement officials collecting evidence, conducting numerous witness interviews, and pursuing multiple relevant leads.

“Our investigators worked diligently around the clock to ensure this case moved forward quickly and professionally,” Greenville Police Chief Marcus Turner Sr. said. “While an arrest has been made, our commitment to seeking justice for Mr. Charles and his family continues. We appreciate the cooperation of those who assisted during this investigation.”

Authorities will continue to assess this case, and ask those with information to call the Greenville Police Department at (662) 378-1515 or Crime Stoppers at (662) 378-TIPS (8477). Tips may remain anonymous, police assure.
