Former Jackson State defensive back Levi Wyatt died in a Friday night car crash.
Wyatt, 23, was in an accident around 11:40 p.m. near the intersection of North State Street and Belhaven Street, Hinds County Coroner Jeremiah Howard told The Clarion-Ledger. Wyatt’s vehicle left the roadway, overturned, and hit a light pole. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Jackson State football program issued a statement Saturday afternoon, mourning the loss of its former player.
“The bond of this brotherhood does not end when the game clock expires. Today, we mourn the loss of our brother, Levi Wyatt,” the statement said. “His memory will forever live within the halls of Jackson State football and in the hearts of everyone who shared this journey with him. We ask the Tiger nation to join us in lifting his family and loved ones in prayer during this incredibly difficult time. Rest easy, Tiger.”

Wyatt played for Jackson State during the 2025 season and recorded 12 tackles and four pass breakups before declaring for the 2026 NFL Draft. He went unselected but made it clear in a social media post that he was also willing to play in the CFL and XFL.
Before Jackson State, Wyatt was named to the 2024 All-Southland Conference second team at McNeese State, where he played in 22 games across two seasons after transferring from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.
A native of Vicksburg, Wyatt played his prep years at Holmes County Central High School.
