A woman was found dead hanging in a tree behind a Jackson home on Monday night, prompting an investigation by the Jackson Police Department.
Hinds County Coroner Jeremiah Howard confirmed to The Clarion-Ledger that police are investigating after the woman’s body was discovered in the backyard of a vacant home in the 500 block of Road of Remembrance.
In a social media post at 9:05 p.m. Monday, Jackson police said officers responded to the scene and found the body of an unidentified Black woman. Crime scene investigators are working the determine the circumstances surrounding her death.
The women’s identity had not been released as of Tuesday night.

Howard said the woman’s body is being transported to the Mississippi State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
