A Copiah County man was charged with manufacturing marijuana after an illegal farm was discovered at his residence.
According to the Copiah County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit, Michael Whittington was discovered growing his own marijuana after a search warrant was executed at his home in Crystal Springs.
During the search on July 23, officers found a large indoor and outdoor grow in containers ranging from plant pots to buckets.
Officials promptly placed Whittington in the Copiah County Jail after being charged. On July 27, Whittington appeared in court and was sentenced to 10 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
All drug evidence used in the case was transported to the state crime lab after Whittington’s sentencing. Once the results are released from the lab, the case will be presented to the Copiah Grand Jury.
