Wire and cable manufacturer Southwire is expanding its operations in Starkville with a $256 million investment.
Gov. Tate Reeves announced Monday that the company plans to create 128 new jobs in the Golden Triangle as part of the investment. Founded in 1950, Southwire is one of North America’s largest wire and cable producers and serves a range of electrical infrastructure markets.
The expansion in Starkville includes the addition of approximately 380,000 square feet to the company’s existing location, along with manufacturing machinery and related equipment aimed at meeting a growing market demand. The project is part of Southwire’s companywide commitment of more than $2 billion in modernization efforts across its locations.
“Southwire’s quarter-of-a-billion-dollar investment and the nearly 130 jobs it will create are another example of the incredible momentum we’re seeing across Mississippi,” Gov. Tate Reeves said. “This project is more proof that Mississippi gets the job done. And the fact is that Southwire wouldn’t be expanding here if our state couldn’t deliver results. This is another big win for Starkville and Mississippi.”
As is the case with most major economic development projects in the state, the Mississippi Development Authority is providing financial assistance through the Mississippi Flexible Tax Incentive program. The city of Starkville and Oktibbeha County are also assisting with the project.
“Companies don’t make investments of this size unless the conditions are right. And Southwire’s expansion in Starkville is another prime example of the advantages Mississippi continues to deliver to manufacturers, including speed to market, reliable infrastructure, a skilled workforce and a competitive cost of doing business,” Mississippi Development Authority Executive Director Bill Cork said.
“Those are the qualities that drive reinvestment from existing employers and keep Mississippi competitive for future projects.”
Construction is expected to begin in late 2026, with the expanded operations expected to reach full capacity in 2028, officials said.
