Woman charged after hit-and-run involving school bus in Bentonia

A woman is facing criminal charges for her alleged role in a hit-and-run involving a school bus.

The Yazoo County Sheriff’s Office said that Katherine Coleman is charged with driving while being impaired. Coleman is accused of fleeing the scene of a crash involving her vehicle and a school bus at the intersection of Highway 49 and Highway 433 in Bentonia.

Officials said the collision occurred around 7:30 a.m. on Thursday. No injuries were reported at the scene, and all students on the bus are said to have made it to school safely. Officials did not specify the school to which the bus was headed.

An investigation spearheaded by law enforcement resulted in Coleman’s vehicle being located behind her residence, where it was reportedly hidden. Coleman was taken into custody and is currently being held at the Yazoo County Regional Correctional Facility.

“We are thankful that no students or other individuals were injured in this incident,” an official statement from the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Office said.
