An investigation is underway following a report of a threat called into Northwest Rankin Middle School.
The Rankin County Sheriff’s Department announced Friday that its deputies joined officers from other law enforcement agencies in responding to Northwest Rankin’s elementary, middle, and high schools after being notified about the alleged threat.
Officials did not disclose the nature of the threat, but did note that the schools are under “controlled movement” as authorities examine them.
“We are working closely with the Rankin County School District,” Rankin County Sheriff’s Department Investigator Tyler Burnell said. “Our top priority is the safety of students and staff.”
No stranger to these incidents, Northwest Rankin was the subject of a bomb threat in February 2025, and two months later, a juvenile from Georgia reportedly directed an online threat of violence at the school system. In January 2024, a 24-year-old reportedly posing as a student was arrested at Northwest Rankin after taking a bus ride to the high school.
As for the latest incident, no arrests have been announced at this time.
