A tree-clearing accident in Adams County resulted in a man being airlifted to a Louisiana hospital.
On Friday, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office responded to a workplace incident near Upper Kingston Road. Upon arrival, officers found 66-year-old Victor Martinez suffering from significant injuries that stemmed from clearing trees.
Martinez was reportedly cutting a tree when a large, overhanging limb broke off and crashed onto his head. The impact caused him to fall and hit his head on a stump, resulting in severe cuts and other injuries.
Emergency medical personnel and police responded and gave Martinez immediate treatment. After evaluation, they requested an Air-Evac medical helicopter because of the severity of his injuries. Martinez was transported via helicopter to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge, La., for emergency treatment.
“Tree removal and cleanup work can be extremely dangerous, particularly when workers are dealing with damaged, weakened, or suspended limbs” Sheriff Travis Patten said. “We are praying for Mr. Martinez and his family and hoping for a full recovery. We also want to remind everyone performing this type of work to remain extremely vigilant, because conditions can change in a matter of seconds.”
