A Natchez man has been charged with three counts of aggravated assault domestic violence after an incident involving two women and an infant.
On Sept. 4, deputies with the Adams County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home on East Sulinda Street around 8:45 p.m. When they arrived, the disturbance they were called to was still in progress. 26-year-old Ashaud Lampton and the two female victims were actively fighting when the deputies arrived, and they were quickly separated.
After an on-scene investigation, it was determined that the dispute escalated into a physical altercation that led to both female victims being assaulted. Both were choked and struck, one received a cut on her leg, and the other sustained an injury to her nose, according to law enforcement.
During the alleged assault, a three-month-old infant was also physically hurt. It is unclear what injuries the infant sustained.
Medical first responders arrived to the scene, assessed the victims, and treated the woman’s leg wound but determined that it was not necessary to send anyone to the hospital.
The deputies placed Lampton under arrest at the scene based on the amount of evidence and information gathered from the victims during the investigation. On Sept. 6, he was charged with three counts of aggravated assault domestic violence.
“Domestic violence is something we take extremely seriously, especially when an infant is caught in the middle of a violent situation,” Sheriff Travis Patten stated in a press release on Monday. “Our deputies arrived while the disturbance was still taking place, immediately brought the situation under control, provided access to medical care, and made an arrest based on the circumstances they encountered and the evidence gathered.
“There is simply no excuse for domestic violence. The Adams County Sheriff’s Office encourages anyone experiencing domestic violence or who believes someone is in immediate danger to call 911.”
