Medical testing company Mayo Clinic Laboratories is establishing operations in Southaven, with plans to create 234 new jobs.

The more than $30 million investment will support diagnostic testing and laboratory services for hospitals, clinicians, and healthcare systems to provide patients with accurate, timely results. According to the Mayo Clinic, the company chose Southaven largely because of its location and availability, which will allow it to build a facility that can become operational quickly.

“Companies like Mayo Clinic Laboratories need more than a good location; they need the ability to get up and running without protracted decision-making,” Mississippi Development Authority Executive Director Bill Cork said. “Mississippi continues to deliver that advantage, and MDA is committed to helping companies turn investment decisions into operating facilities that create high-quality jobs and strengthen critical industries.”

As is the case with many major economic development projects in the state, the Mississippi Development Authority is providing financial assistance through the Mississippi Flexible Tax Incentive program. The city of Southaven and DeSoto County are also assisting.

“We appreciate Mayo Clinic Laboratories recognizing what this community has to offer,” DeSoto County Board of Supervisors President Jessie Medlin said. “I’ve seen DeSoto County grow over the years, and we’ve worked hard to make sure that growth is done the right way by planning ahead and putting the infrastructure in place to support it. This investment creates real opportunity for our residents.”

Based in Rochester, Minn., Mayo Clinic is the largest, not-for-profit medical group practice in the world with the goal of improving overall health through research and clinical practice. Their unwavering commitment to finding cures through research has the Mayo Clinic with more top-three specializations than any other hospital in the country.
