An inmate serving a life sentence for capital murder has passed away at a Mississippi hospital.
Officials confirmed that Weldon Leagea, 61, died at the University of Mississippi Medical Center on Sept. 10. The Mississippi Department of Corrections said the manner and cause of his death are pending autopsy results.
Leagea was convicted of shooting and killing a man named James Johnson at the Isle of Capri casino in Biloxi back in 2007. He was later convicted of capital murder and sentenced to life in prison. Legea began his time behind bars in July 2011.
Authorities have not said whether or not foul play is suspected in the inmate’s death.
