An investigation into an officer-involved shooting in Jackson is underway.
The Department of Public Safety reports that state officials are looking into an incident that occurred on Sept. 18. According to law enforcement, a Jackson police officer was in the 1000 block of Raymond Road when he heard multiple gunshots and spotted a male running with a weapon in his hands.
The officer reportedly gave verbal commands for the subject to drop the weapon. The two then allegedly exchanged gunfire. The subject was struck and received minor injuries. He was arrested. Officials did not announce his name. The officer in the shooting is not reported to have sustained any injuries.
As is the case with officer-involved shootings in the state, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is assessing this incident and gathering evidence. Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Hinds County District Attorney’s Office and the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office.
