A man in custody of the Jackson Police Department assaulted three officers during an interview related to another crime.
On Tuesday, around 2 p.m., JPD detectives were interviewing 22-year-old Cameron Mitchell at the Jackson Police Headquarters for his role in connection with an armed robbery investigation. In the process, Mitchell reportedly became combative, physically assaulting multiple detectives.
Mitchell allegedly headbutted two, kicked one in the stomach, and bit another detective. He then headbutted one of the detectives a second time and bit one again.
The detectives called for assistance, prompting additional personnel to respond to the headquarters building. Eventually, other officers were able to control Mitchell and subdue him without further incident.
Medical first responders arrived at the JPD Headquarters to treat the injured detectives. One was transported to a local hospital for further treatment for minor injuries.
Due to the assaults that occurred, Mitchell is being charged with three counts of aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer in addition to the armed robbery of an individual charge he received following his arrest by the U.S. Marshals Service earlier in the day on Tuesday.
