A former Mississippi State and Jackson State football player is facing a capital murder charge in Texas after a double homicide.

According to the Travis County Sheriff’s Office, the manager of an apartment complex in Austin was serving an eviction notice on Sept. 23 when he found the unit’s door open, discovering two bodies with gunshot wounds inside. Deputies responded to the scene around 8:45 a.m. and found the bodies of 37-year-old Anecia Thacker and 32-year-old Lamonica Webb with two guns near them.

Initially, the case was under investigation as a murder-suicide, but after a more thorough investigation of the scene, evidence was found to the contrary. It was then determined by Travis County detectives to be a double homicide.

24-year-old Michael Robinson Jr. of Vicksburg was determined as a person of interest. Robinson, a former college football player with the Mississippi State Bulldogs from 2021-24 before transferring to Jackson State in 2025, was an SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll student in 2023 and 2024.

Detectives discovered that his grandmother’s vehicle was captured multiple times by nearby license plate readers before he was stopped. Robinson reportedly volunteered to give a statement to authorities. According to Robinson in an affidavit documented by the Travis County Sheriff’s Office, he allegedly responded to an online ad posted by the two women. Robinson claimed that he called the listed number and arrived at their apartment at 12:45 a.m. on Sept. 21.

To corroborate this, according to investigators, a friend of Thacker’s claimed that the last text she received from one of the victims was that Thacker was planning to solicit sex on the app. According to the affidavit, Robinson said that he paid Webb $120 via Cash App in exchange for sex.

Robinson claims that when he went into a bedroom in the apartment, Thacker allegedly opened the door and pointed a gun at him. Robinson told investigators that he attempted to take the gun from her and that, during the struggle, he was able to wrangle Thacker’s gun free and retrieve his own from a bag. Robinson reportedly tried to leave before Webb came at him with a gun of her own and threatened to shoot him if he refused to return Thacker’s gun.

The affidavit then states that Robinson said he put her gun on a counter and attempted to leave, but Thacker retrieved it and pointed it yet again at Robinson. He told investigators that due to the escalation of the situation and the constant threats from the two women, Robinson fired roughly eight shots before leaving the apartment. At the end of the affidavit, he claimed that he did not call 911 because his phone had been stolen.

Robinson was arrested and charged with capital murder of multiple persons on Sept. 25 and is being held at the Travis County jail on a $500,000 bond. Attorney Gene Anthes said in an interview with KXAN that his client Robinson has no criminal record and that he “looks forward to Robinson’s day in court and seeing more facts come out as the investigation continues.”
