A Holly Springs High School student accused of bringing a gun to campus is behind bars.
Local law enforcement confirmed that 16-year-old Jarquavius Vasser has been arrested and is being charged as an adult with possession of a weapon on school property.
Authorities responded to the high school on Wednesday after receiving a report that a student was potentially in possession of a weapon. The school also went on lockdown at that time. When police arrived at the scene, Vasser reportedly fled on foot but was ultimately caught roughly two blocks from campus.
“Law enforcement officers worked collaboratively with district administrators and school security, and the situation was resolved without further incident,” Holly Springs School District Superintendent Dr. Irene Walton Turnage said in a statement. “All students and staff are safe, and the lockdown was lifted.
“We understand that situations of this nature may cause concern and anxiety for our students, families, and staff. Please be assured that the Holly Springs School District takes every report involving a potential threat to school safety seriously.”
Vasser is in the custody of the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office.
