The Mississippi Department of Public Safety announced the passing of State Trooper Landon Murphy, who had been battling brain cancer.

The death of Murphy, 27, was announced Wednesday in a Facebook post in which DPS officials honored the trooper for his dedication to protecting the people of Mississippi.

“With heavy hearts, the Mississippi Department of Public Safety mourns the passing of one of our own,” DPS officials said. “The loss of a fellow Trooper is felt throughout our DPS family. We are grateful for his dedication, service, and commitment to protecting the people of Mississippi. His legacy of service will not be forgotten.”

DPS also extended its condolences to Murphy’s family, friends, and fellow officers.

“Rest easy, Trooper. We have the watch from here,” officials said.

Murphy’s wife, Victoria, who had shared updates on his battle with cancer on social media, also announced the loss of her husband of two years in a heartfelt post.

“Landon’s no longer suffering, no longer in pain, cancer free,” she said. “He’s finally Home, in the arms of Jesus. He’s longed for this day for some time now.”

Reflecting on their marriage, she added: “I’m so incredibly grateful for the two years that I got to be your wife. … Death absolutely does not have the final word. I love you with all my heart, and I always will. I can’t wait to see you again.”

Murphy had battled brain cancer for more than six years after being diagnosed with a brain tumor in June 2020. He went into remission before graduating and joining the Mississippi Highway Patrol in 2023. The cancer returned in August 2025.
