No. 12 Ole Miss will be without star running back Kewan Lacy in its upcoming game versus Auburn, head coach Pete Golding confirmed during his Monday press conference.
Golding said Lacy dislocated his shoulder in the second half of the 34-27 loss at Texas on Oct. 24. The injury is separate from another shoulder-related pain the running back has battled all season. Lacy is scheduled to undergo MRIs to pinpoint the extent of his injury and get a timeline for recovery.
“With the combination of both of those [injuries], he’s obviously not going to play this week,” Golding said. “We’re going to evaluate that moving forward, kind of what that looks like. Normally, we wouldn’t tell you that, but there’s no chance we’re going to try that at all this week.”
Lacy has missed parts of multiple games this season and notably did not see any action in a blowout loss at Florida on Sept. 26. In his absence, Ole Miss (5-2, 3-2 SEC) has leaned on Michigan State transfer Makhi Frazier and LSU transfer JT Lindsey to pound the rock. Frazier, in recent weeks, has emerged as the preferred No. 2 back to Lacy on the depth chart.
Ole Miss and Auburn are set to face off in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on Saturday at 11:45 a.m. CT. The game will air on the SEC Network and participating SuperTalk Mississippi stations.
