Ole Miss earning a 30-point win over conference foe Auburn was not enough to move the Rebels up in the latest Associated Press Top 25.

Pete Golding’s group stayed put at No. 12 in the rankings after defeating the Tigers 45-15 on Saturday. The red and blue overcame a slow start in the home matchup. In the opening half, offensive flow was borderline nonexistent, and the defense struggled to prevent Auburn from moving the chains on third-and-long. The Tigers scored a touchdown midway through the third quarter, but failed on a 2-point conversion attempt, cutting the Ole Miss lead to 17-15. From there, the Rebels put 28 unanswered points on the scoreboard to run away with a comfortable win.

The momentum shift started with Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss using his legs to his advantage. Chambliss, on multiple occasions, extended drives by rushing for enough yardage to earn a first down. The star signal-caller even found the end zone on a designed run. Defensively, Golding said execution was what stopped the Tigers from moving at will in late-down situations in the back half of the contest. It also helped that the Rebels held dual-threat Auburn quarterback Byrum Brown to a mere five rushing yards.

Ole Miss (6-2, 4-2 SEC) will soon have a golden opportunity to make a big move in the rankings and simultaneously deliver a convincing blow to one of the nation’s top teams. The Rebels will face No. 2 Georgia at home on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. CT. ABC and participating SuperTalk Mississippi stations will air the game.
