A federal investigation into drug trafficking resulted in around $80.5 million worth of narcotics being seized.

ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Hattiesburg division worked alongside the Homeland Security Task Force through Operation Iron Current to seize two vessels that were shipping large amounts of drugs. The products were reportedly shipped to the U.S. by a Colombian cartel.

During the operation, HSI Hattiesburg reports that agents found a total of 6,400 kilograms of cocaine and marijuana. In the investigation, HSI worked with domestic and international law enforcement partners to share information supporting maritime counternarcotics enforcement efforts.

“Transnational criminal organizations exploit maritime routes to move dangerous drugs and profit from crime,” HSI New Orleans Special Agent in Charge Matt Wright said. “HSI remains committed to working alongside our law enforcement partners to disrupt these networks, seize illicit narcotics, and hold those responsible accountable.”

The investigation remains ongoing, and information is limited.
