The Shannon police chief is out amid an investigation into alleged wrongdoing within the city’s government.

Chief Tony Rogers resigned following a board of aldermen meeting on Thursday. Assistant Chief Larry Polks and another police officer followed in Rogers’ footsteps. Their resignations stem from unverified allegations of wrongdoing. Specifics of the allegations have not been reported by city officials.

“I firmly believe that transparency, accountability, integrity, and open communication are essential to maintaining the public’s trust. As your Alderwoman, I remain committed to serving the citizens of Shannon with honesty, fairness, and professionalism,” Ward 4 Alderwoman Dearren Young said.

“Our community deserves accurate information, responsible leadership, and the assurance that any concerns will be addressed through the proper channels,” she continued.

Rogers assumed the role of police chief in July after having retired from the same position in May. Shannon has a population of roughly 1,500 residents and is currently being patrolled by four part-time city officers and deputies with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

The public is encouraged to be patient as more information about the allegations in the police department becomes available. Residents are urged to avoid spreading misinformation.
