A pair of Mississippi HBCUs will be spotlighted in a multi-day baseball tournament held at Trustmark Park next month.
Taking place Feb. 13-15, the HBCU Power Series will spotlight Mississippi’s Alcorn State and Jackson State, along with Texas Southern, Prairie View A&M, Alabama A&M, and Grambling State. The three-day tournament will be held in conjunction with the MLB and will feature three games per day. All games will be nine innings with a 10-run rule.
The event will kick off on Feb. 12 with a non-game, pre-event day focused on team workouts, arrivals, and media availability. The opening day is designed to highlight the pride, tradition, and culture surrounding HBCU athletics before the first pitch is ever thrown.
The Mississippi Mud Monsters, a member of the Frontier League, were chosen in recognition of the organization’s facilities, its event experience, and its commitment to creating inclusive baseball events. When the professional team was announced in 2024, officials assured the public that Trustmark Park would be a multi-purpose venue with the local community being the main focus.
“This is a huge honor for our organization and our community,” Mud Monsters General Manager Andrew Seymour said. “Being selected by and partnering with Major League Baseball speaks to what this ballpark and this team are capable of. This weekend is going to feel loud, joyful, and intentional. It’s great baseball, incredible traditions, and an atmosphere that welcomes everyone through the gates.”
Tickets to the tournament are $10 for adults, $5 for youth 14 and under, and free for students from participating schools. A valid student ID will be required for free entry. Tickets for the HBCU Power Series are on sale now and available here.
