Heavy-duty truck manufacturer PACCAR is celebrating the opening of its $209 million expanded site in Lowndes County.
Officials gathered in Columbus on Wednesday for a ceremonial ribbon-cutting in honor of PACCAR’s major investment in the region. Back in 2023, the company announced that it planned to expand its plant in the Mississippi Golden Triangle by 50,000 square feet to add to existing engine manufacturing operations, in part to meet emissions requirements for diesel engines.
The project, which created roughly 100 new jobs, also serves to repurpose old truck engines. With its expanded footprint in the region, PACCAR plans to build upon relationships with local colleges and universities for future employment purposes.
Gov. Tate Reeves took to social media to tout the completion of the project, saying, “The Mississippi Momentum continues,” as he commended PACCAR for its commitment to Mississippi.
