Following a standout performance in Millsaps’ season-opening win over Belhaven, defensive tackle Myles Johnson is being honored by the Southern Athletic Association.
The conference announced its first slate of weekly awards for the 2026 season, naming Johnson as its Defensive Player of the Week. Berry wide receiver Cameron Coleman was named Offensive Player of the Week, while Trinity kicker Jackson Runyan earned Special Teams Player of the Week honors.
Johnson, a junior from Maurice, La., had six tackles and a sack in Millsaps’ 36-20 win over Belhaven in the annual Riverside Rumble. He also forced a fumble and hurried Belhaven quarterback Ian Burleson twice.
The fumble helped seal the game, with the Majors leading 30-20 with 2:15 remaining in the fourth quarter.
In addition to the SAA accolade, Johnson was named to the D3football.com national Team of the Week. He was the SAA’s only representation on the list that recognizes the top performance at each position weekly.
Johnson isn’t the only Mississippi player to receive conference honors after the first, full weekend of play. Ole Miss wide receiver Deuce Alexander and kicker Lucas Carneiro won SEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week and SEC Co-Special Teams Player of the Week, respectively. Southern Miss defensive back Kobi Albert won Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week, while Jackson State quarterback Jared Lockhart won SWAC Offensive Player of the Week.
