While Mississippians already know there’s nothing like a drive down the Natchez Trace – especially during fall when foliage is in full swing – or taking a hike on one of its nature trails, people now have a chance to solidify the parkway as the most scenic in the nation.

The Natchez Trace, which spans from Nashville to Natchez across Mississippi, Alabama, and Tennessee, is up for USA Today’s 10Best Scenic Drives. The annual honor celebrates the natural beauty and cultural legacy of scenic byways across the U.S.

“This nomination is a wonderful opportunity to remind the nation of what makes the Trace so special, and we need everyone to help us spread the word and vote,” said Kim Foster, executive director of the Natchez Trace Compact. “Our communities along the byway work hard to showcase the Natchez Trace Parkway from its scenic overlooks and trails to historic markers and opportunities for outdoor recreation.”

The Natchez Trace Parkway will vie for the title of “Best Scenic Drive” against other scenic routes such as Blue Ridge Parkway, Pacific Coast Highway, Florida Keys Scenic Highway, and Going-to-the-Sun Road, among others.

“The 444-mile Natchez Trace Parkway offers a scenic journey through 10,000 years of history, tracing an ancient trade corridor once used by American Indians, traders, soldiers, and settlers,” USA Today editors wrote. “You’ll find ancient burial mounds and hundreds of archaeological sites along the route, you can stop for some excellent fishing and birding, and the recreational opportunities here are endless, as the Natchez Trace features plenty of great hiking trails, bicycling paths, and campgrounds.”

Voting is open now through Monday, May 5, at 10:59 a.m. Cast your vote here.
