National Fishing and Boating Week is upon us, and officials are encouraging Mississippians to enjoy the great outdoors.

The designated week runs from June 1-8. The nationwide celebration is an invitation for fishing and boating enthusiasts to come together and enjoy waterways across the land.

In Mississippi, June 7 and 8 have been designated as “Free Fishing Days,” allowing all Magnolia State residents to cast a rod and reel without a license. During those two days, fishing permits are not required for state fishing lakes and state park lakes.

“We encourage everyone to take advantage of National Fishing and Boating Week and appreciate the beauty of Mississippi’s waters,” a statement from the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks reads. “Whether you are an experienced angler or looking to try fishing for the first time, this celebration offers a fantastic opportunity to get outdoors.”

For those looking to fish in Mississippi outside of the two-day free pass, permit information can be found here.
