Entergy announced a round of scholarships Wednesday for college students who are either studying in or are from the Magnolia State.
Seven recent high-school graduates heading off to college were award $5,000 scholarships from the integrated energy company’s Community Power scholarship program. The following students are children of Entergy employees in Mississippi who have continuously showcased dedication to their community, school, and workplace:
- Meredith Hawkins, Jackson – Mississippi State University
- Alexis Hunter, Jackson – University of Mississippi
- Grace Gardner, Madison – Colorado State University
- Madelynn Soucie, Madison – Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College
- Ryan Wu, Madison – Duke University
- Alyssa Norsworthy, McComb – Southwest Mississippi Community College
- Desmond Breland, Sandy Hook – Delta Technical College
“These remarkable individuals demonstrate unwavering commitment and effort in shaping a bright future and fostering resilient communities,” Entergy Mississippi President and CEO Haley Fisackerly said. “The Community Power scholarships will support them in taking the next steps of their educational journey and deepening their engagement with the community. Giving back is a core value for Entergy, so we applaud these young leaders for their work.”
The Community Power scholarship program has provided more than $3.6 million in financial assistance to over 730 children of the company’s employees over the past 20 years.
Entergy Mississippi also announced three Jackson State University students have been awarded Power Your Future scholarships. The scholarship program is aimed at supporting HBCU and minority undergraduates pursuing technology majors.
The scholarship recipients at Jackson State are Makena Bailey, Makenzie Blackwell, and Rita Osi. They join 19 recipients from HBCUs and minority-serving schools in neighboring states, including Prairie View A&M University, Southern University, Arkansas at Pine Bluff, and Sam Houston State, among others.
“We are proud to empower the next generation of technology leaders through the Entergy Power Your Future Scholarship,” Fisackerly added. “By supporting students in their pursuit of higher education at HBCUs and minority-serving institutions, we are investing in an innovative and prosperous future for the communities we serve here in Mississippi.”
Entergy plans to invest an additional $20 million between now and 2035 to elevate HBCUs and award scholarship money to students in the company’s service area that includes Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, and Arkansas.
