Christmas in Mississippi won’t be the same without locally made cheese straws.
Mississippi Cheese Straw Factory, which has operated out of Yazoo City for nearly 35 years, announced it will be closing its doors.
The Yerger Family took to social media on March 5 to thank loyal customers for “being part of our story” and to share that they are retiring from the food business. In addition to cheddar cheese straws, the company was well known for its lemon straws, peppermint cookie straws, and red velvet cookies – all of which were often sold in Christmas-themed tins during the holiday season.
“For nearly 35 years, since November of 1991, it has been our privilege to bring our products to you,” the post reads. “From the very first Cheese Straws that emerged from our mother’s kitchen to the thousands of packages we produce daily, our family has worked to offer you the highest quality products and the best service we can.
“It is with grateful hearts that we’ve made the decision to retire and embrace the next chapter of our lives. We want to thank you for your faithful business and the confidence you have placed in us these many years, and from our family to yours, we wish you every success and happiness.”
While rooted in Mississippi, the company shipped its products to customers across the country. In January 2020, Fox Business featured the company in a national segment highlighting its snacks and the family tradition behind them.
