Free fishing days are returning to Mississippi.

The state’s Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks has announced that folks can cast rods and reels at all public bodies of water in Mississippi without worrying about having a license on June 6 and 7. The special occasion will correspond with National Fishing and Boating Week, running from June 6-14.

Another statewide free fishing day will fittingly occur on July 4 as the U.S. celebrates 250 years as a nation.

“We encourage everyone to take advantage of National Fishing and Boating Week and enjoy Mississippi’s abundant fishing and boating opportunities,” a release from MDWFP said. “Whether you are an experienced angler or looking to try fishing for the first time, this celebration offers a chance to get outdoors, make memories, and introduce someone new to fishing and boating.”

It is worth noting that  fishing permits will not be required at state fishing lakes and state park lakes specifically on June 6 and 7 but will be required on Independence Day.
