One person’s goose is likely cooked after law enforcement made a startling discovery in Yazoo County.
On Sunday, the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Office took to social media to announce that an individual had allegedly dumped what appeared to be hundreds of dead geese into garbage dumpsters at an unspecified location. Although Mississippi’s wild goose hunting season is underway and will not conclude until January 31, 2026, the number of wild fowl pictured appears to drastically surpass any daily bag limit.
“To kill this amount of geese and then just throw them in the pitch-ins like this is not only unlawful but unethical,” a release from the sheriff’s office reads. “We have your information, and an off-duty deputy was able to record you dumping. We will be in contact VERY SOON.”
In some cases, Mississippi allows hunters to harvest more geese with relaxed rules, including no daily possession limits. However, said hunters are required to possess a state waterfowl stamp and a special permit from the Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks. By the way the geese were disposed of in this case, it appears the culprit behind the killings was unauthorized to take action in such a manner.
A suspect has not been publicly identified by law enforcement at this time, and no arrests have been announced. The suspect, if convicted, could face hefty penalties for killing the geese and possible jail time for illegal dumping.
