A Kiln man has been sentenced to the maximum after pleading guilty to two counts of aggravated domestic assault in Hancock County on Wednesday.
District Attorney W. Crosby Parker announced that Cory Scott Rogers, 32, entered a guilty plea in front of Circuit Court Judge Randi Mueller.
The case dates back to April 2024 when deputies with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call in the White Cypress area. Deputies found the victim inside a mobile home, suffering from multiple contusions, hemorrhages, lacerations, broken bones, and signs of strangulation, according to prosecutors.
Authorities said the victim convinced Rogers to let her call an ambulance by telling him she would falsely claim she had fallen out of a tree. After first responders arrived, Rogers fled the scene but was captured shortly after.
During the plea hearing, Rogers initially claimed the victim was injured after falling from a window. He later admitted he “may have slapped the victim two times during the night.” Judge Mueller rejected that account, stating she found Rogers’ version of events not credible.
Rogers, who had no prior felony convictions, was sentenced to 20 years in prison on each count, the maximum allowed. The sentences will run concurrently and be served in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
