The Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) announced its postseason awards with Jackson State women’s basketball taking home two of the five major awards.

Head coach Tomekia Reed was voted SWAC Coach of the Year for the second season in a row after leading the Lady Tigers to their fifth consecutive regular season conference title. It’s the fourth time Reed has won the award (2020, 2022, 2023, 2024) since being named head coach in 2018.

Jackson State graduate guard Angel Jackson was awarded Defensive Player of the Year after leading the conference with 2.7 blocks per outing. She was key in the Lady Tigers’ regular season run as the SWAC’s best defensive team, allowing the fewest points (57.3 points per game) in conference play.

Overall, Jackson State garnered three of the 10 All-SWAC selections with Miya Crump and Ti’lan Boler getting first-team nods and Jackson landing on the second team. Crump, a junior guard, averaged 11.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.4 assists during the regular season. Boler, a junior guard, averaged 11.5 points and 3.6 rebounds.

The Lady Tigers (23-6, 18-0 SWAC) will now head into the SWAC Tournament as the No. 1 seed. They will face off against Prairie View A&M (11-17, 7-11) on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. CT.
